One by One Nicaragua
Primary Exhibit Hall Category:word
Vision:One by One Nicaragua’s vision consists of three aspects: 1. EVANGELISTIC OUTREACH through gospel-centered church services (for children, youth, and adults), and through training and equipping Nicaraguan Christians to be ministry leaders to more effectively reach other Nicaraguans. 2. DISCIPLESHIP & DEVELOPMENT through our sponsored after-school tutoring program for children & youth and through continually seeking ways to best help those in need. 3. RESCUE & RESTORATION of children who have been sexually exploited or otherwise intensely abused. Our Refuge Project will provide a place to live, the ability to learn life skills to support themselves in adulthood, counseling, medical care, and discipleship.
Describe the types of ministry opportunities your agency will offer to Urbana 12 participants:LONG-TERM STAFF (commitment: 2 years or indefinite). The staff’s focus is to put the ministry’s vision into action! Staff members live in Nicaragua and are a hands-on part of One by One’s regular outreach to children, youth, and adults. The staff is currently composed both of Americans and Nicaraguans; each has regular responsibilities, and each participates in weekly staff meetings. Spanish language ability is needed, but not required prior to moving. SHORT-TERM TEAMS (5-14 days). Teams can participate in a wide variety of activities, whether it be work projects, hosting special events for children or youth, missionary encouragement, or other service opportunity. Their focus is to learn about international ministry and help One by One achieve its goals through unique opportunities. Spanish language ability is not required, but we do ask that team members come with an open heart and open mind, desiring to learn and receive from God. INTERNSHIPS (1-6 months). Interns are given individual responsibilities (depending on their abilities and what is needed at the time) and are also involved in serving in our regular outreach events. The intern’s focus is to gain real-life ministry experience and insight while helping the ministry accomplish its vision. Spanish language ability is desired, but not required. U.S. CHURCH PARTNERSHIPS. You and your church can be a part of what God is doing in Nicaragua even if not everyone can come see it firsthand. Partnerships occur between One by One and an American church when that church plays an intentional role in staying informed of the ministry’s activities as well as in the facilitation of mission (praying, sending, encouraging, going, welcoming or mobilizing) while of what’s happening in Nicaragua. This could be the sponsorship of a child or an entire outreach center, raising ministry awareness stateside, inviting a staff member to speak at your church or other event, being someone who intentionally seeks specific ways to bless or encourage a missionary, etc. The possibilities are endless, so you can be creative!
