Vision:Jill’s House transforms families in Christ by loving children with special needs. We do this by providing long breaks to families of children with intellectual disabilities. By 2020, Jill’s House will operate 20 programs around the U.S., bringing consistent renewal to more than 2000 families.
Describe the types of ministry opportunities your agency will offer to Urbana 12 participants:We invite participants to send short-term teams to one of our camp-based respite locations where the teams will serve as weekend buddies to children with intellectual disabilities, under the supervision of Jill’s House staff. Short-term missions teams will receive pre-trip, trip, and post-trip support. Pre-trip support includes background on intellectual disabilities and the theology of disability ministry. The trip itself runs from Fridays to Sundays during the school year. Teams arrive at one of our camp locations at 12 pm on Friday to settle in and undergo in-person training and pray for the children. From the children’s arrival at 6 pm until the children’s departure on Sunday at 11 am, the short-term missionaries spend time caring for and getting to know the children. Post-trip support includes debriefing and working to unpack lessons that God teaches participants. Volunteers must have clean criminal background checks so that Jill’s House can assure parents of the safety of the children.
