Vision:
We envision the local Church in Africa effectively caring for the dying, orphans, and widows, and unified in this mission with the church outside Africa. We believe the biblical mandate to care for the dying widows, and orphans is not only for the Church outside Africa, but also elsewhere, and Hands at Work will be a prophetic voice to the Churches outside Africa, challenging them to fulfill their mandate.
Describe the types of ministry opportunities your agency will offer to Urbana 12 participants:
Come to volunteer – Volunteers serving with HAW are able to encourage and support our local communities by their very presence. The skills and abilities that you bring with you can be used to empower and equip people. The metaphor we use to describe our volunteers working with community organizations across Africa is “scaffolding”: a temporary, yet essential aides is building up the community and leaving it stronger than upon arrival. HAW offers Short-term (less than 3 months), Mid-term (over 6 months), or Team trips for 2-3 weeks. Advocate on behalf of the vulnerable- “Speak up for those who have no voice.” Prov. 31:8 Individuals can make an impact wherever God has placed them. One can show a Hands video at church on a Sunday morning or at a special meeting and share about what is happening in Africa and God’s call for the world to respond. Leverage your passion, leadership, and organizational gifts to affect hundreds or orphans by taking on the task of raising funds among your colleagues, friends, or church to build a child care center, drill a water well, or fund another urgent HAW project. Individuals can also advocate through various forms of social media by becoming a fan on FB learning more about the organizations through our website and YouTube videos. Give- Ensure vulnerable children in Africa have access to food, education, and basic health care. Rally a group of friends, your church, or work to support at least 50 children at $20/ month for each child. You will receive quarterly updates and pictures from your community. Or fund an urgent project, like the construction of a community school or drilling a well.
