The purpose of AGTS is to train men and women to fulfill the mission of the church as taught in Scripture—Shaping servant leaders with knowledge, skill and passion to revitalize the church and evangelize the world in the power of the Spirit. As a graduate-level educational institution within the evangelical and Pentecostal tradition, the seminary affirms the Bible as God’s written Word, the inspired, infallible and authoritative rule for faith and conduct. Affiliated with The General Council of the AG, the seminary’s doctrinal commitment is found in the Statement of Fundamental Truths.
Describe the accredited programs in cross-cultural ministries or missions offered by your organization:
1) Master of Arts in Intercultural Ministries (M.A.I.M.) is a 48-credit degree serving those preparing for multi-cultural ministry in a domestic or foreign context. In addition to missionary service this program also prepares students for domestic, intercultural church ministry, college teaching in the United States and abroad, college campus ministry and other forms of christian leadership. Concentration options include Intercultural Ministries, Global Missions, Mental Health, and Islamic Studies. 2) MA in Counseling with Intercultural Studies Concentration -- Students pursuing the Licensed Professional Counseling (LPC) or Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) tracks may also pursue the Intercultural Ministries track. Over the years AGTS has educated a significant number of full time overseas missionaries who had a need for thorough Counseling education to minister in their contexts. This trend will continue, and AGTS now prepares missionaries with thorough Counseling education prior to their initial term on the field. 3) Doctor of Missiology -- (D.Miss.) is a 48-credit program that recognizes the priority of the Holy Spirit’s person and power in accomplishing the mission of God (Missio Dei) and creates an environment in which participants can develop greater discernment of the Spirit’s leading and greater dependence on the Spirit’s power. Two concentrations are offered, Intercultural Studies and Christian Relief and Development. 4) PhD in Intercultural Studies -- (Ph.D./ICS) is a 60-credit program that facilitates the development and academic certification of vocations in missiological and intercultural teaching and scholarship. The program recognizes the priority of the Holy Spirit's person and power in accomplishing the mission of God (Missio Dei). It creates an environment in which students can experience the kind of learning that connects them more deeply with the Spirit's work in mission and allows them to focus their program and research on the application of integrative learning in missional praxis. Two concentrations are offered, missiological studies and relief and development.
