Originally from Seattle, WA, Marta studied Art and Religious Studies, along with secondary ed. at Lewis & Clark College, Oregon. Later, she completed an MDiv at Fuller Seminary, and finally a doctorate in Educational Leadership at Seattle U.

Laced in around her studies, Marta has served in a wide variety of ministries, including Young Life, University Ministries, work with street kids, and then served in Campus Ministries for 12-1/2 years at Seattle Pacific University and taught in the School of Religion. While at SPU, Marta worked extensively with discipleship and leadership training, urban ministries, and international volunteer ministry teams. With the latter, she was able to lead and/or accompany short-term student mission teams to many different settings on five different continents.

At the end of 1994, Marta resigned from Seattle Pacific to join the faculty of Daystar University in Nairobi Kenya, where she continues to serve. Currently she is the Chair of Post-Graduate Studies, as well as a full time professor.

Of her family, she says:

"Though I am still single, one delightful surprise from the Lord was adopting two beautiful Kenyan children, a boy and a girl. Justin Wangai came to me at 6 weeks old, and is now almost 3 years. Sara Imani is 15 months, and has been with me since she was 3-1/2 months. Both are very lively, happy, and healthy, even though they are still very young, they accompany me at times to ministry in the church, in Nairobi slums, and among our neighbors in the heart of the city."
